Bisichi disappoints, but prospects improve

Six months ago, brokers were hoping for a second-half bounce back in profits at Bisichi's BlackWattle mine, 180km east of Johannesburg. However, lower coal prices and a severe shortage of railway trucks taking coal to the Richards Bay export depot firmly put pay to that and also led to an unacceptable build-up of stocks. Earnings were knocked further by the strength of the rand against the dollar.
