Rockhopper declares commerciality

Rockhopper Exploration believes its Sea Lion discovery in the North Falkland basin to be "commercially viable" after the results of its third appraisal well came in at the upper end of expectations. The well was drilled 4.1km to the west of the discovery well and was highly successful in proving the existence of a thick, high-quality reservoir package and a substantial oil column.

The results will be integrated with other data to give an estimate of the potential well productivity. They will also be integrated into the fast-track seismic, which will then be interpreted to enable an estimate to be made of the oil resources within Sea Lion.

IC VIEW:

After the frenzied anticipation, it comes as some relief that the North Falkland drilling campaign has returned at least one commercial oil find, although attention is now switching to the South Falkland basin where drilling is due to begin late this year. Rockhopper remains good value at 212p.
