Schild stocks up on shares

Telecom Plus non-executive director Julian Schild has been busy stocking up on shares in the company that operates the utility discount club. He acquired 2,624 shares in Telecom Plus at 636.5p a share on 11 August and another 30,000 ordinary shares on 16 August, at 640p a share. These transactions took his stake up to 62,624 shares, representing 0.09 per cent of the company.

Mr Schild was appointed a non-executive director back in July 2010 and has been building a stake in the company since. He is clearly willing to pay a premium for the shares, which at 635p are trading at a forecast price-earnings multiple of 19.7 times 2012 earnings estimates. This is expensive and we rate them high enough.

Serious buying at Sirius

Since being readmitted to the Alternative Investment Market in March, Sirius Petroleum has been assessing a number of potential oil asset acquisitions as it seeks to change its status from investment company to trading company.

The board is keeping its options open, although the initial focus is on Nigeria, where the company can leverage existing contacts and relationships. The recent appointment of Ed Johnson as commercial director should help the deal process. Mr Johnson joins from Renaissance Capital, where he led the new markets oil team for investment banking and financing, with a particular focus on the exploration and production sector across Africa.

The company hasn’t yet released details of specific deals, although the directors clearly have confidence in their ability to add value. Mr Johnson, plus the chairman, chief executive, finance director and a non-executive director have between them purchased 4.91m shares, representing 11.05 per cent of the total issued share capital, at 2.75p.

Walters buys Asian growth

It is clear from their recent investments that Robert Walters (chief executive) and Giles Daubeney (chief operating officer) believe the Asian jobs market growth story. The deals are also backed up by Robert Walters plc’s strong set of half-year results. Mr Walters has been known to make some excellent forays into his own shares in the past.
