Tips of the year 2011 newspaper round-up

Most newspaper pundits are clearly banking on the resources sector remaining strong this year – BHP Billiton, BG and BP all featured in more than one paper, while Rio Tinto, African Barrick and Royal Dutch Shell also came up. And more than one tipster thinks that 2011 might be the year when Lloyds and Royal Bank of Scotland, rescued by the tax payer in 2008, are fattened up for return to full private ownership – they are the only banks that were tipped in the mainstream press. Most pundits expect retail to have a tough time this year, but there's faith in Mike Ashley's cheap 'n' cheerful Sports Direct, despite concerns about corporate governance. Finally F&C has had a tough couple of years, but finds itself tipped by both The Independent and The Times.
