Spectris pays $475m for Omega

TIP UPDATE: Spectris has paid big money for US-based Omega Engineering ahead of its interim results

Spectris has dug deep and paid $475m (£290m) for Omega Engineering, a privately-held American company that makes sensors and controls for industrial testing and measuring devices.

IC TIP: Buy at 1416p

It will beef up Spectris's fast-growing, but much smaller, industrial controls division, which contributed £9.5m of adjusted operating profit in 2010 and revenue of £59.8m. Omega made a £24m profit last year on sales of £103m, and will enhance earnings in 2012.
