Many people believe that prices in the bond market rise and fall in unison, driven by the tide of interest rate expectations. However, the situation is somewhat more complex than this, akin to the type of currents one might encounter in a small boat in the Solent. Yes, there may be a general tidal flow, but in certain areas, the current flows in the opposite direction, or indeed two directions at once.
