Technology is no respecter of first movers. A week after the company that invented portable cameras filed for creditor protection, the spotlight turned to the company that invented mobile email: Canada's Research In Motion (RIM). Both RIM and Nokia, another early pioneer of mobile technology, are now in a brutal scrap for third place in a market dominated by operating systems from Apple and Google.
