Welcome to our summary of the weekend's quality press tips, provided on Mondays by Weekend City Press Review.

The Times

Tempus: Patrick Hosking thinks George Osborne should consider the sale, even at a loss, of a small stake in either of the semi-nationalised banks - Royal Bank of Scotland (Last IC rating: Sell, 24 Feb) or Lloyds Banking Group (Last IC rating: Hold, 24 Feb) - to give investors confidence that the government is serious about returning the banks to the private sector.

The Independent

No Pain, No Gain: Derek Pain would like to add James Halstead (Last IC rating: Buy, 31 Jan) and PSG Solutions (No recent IC rating) to his portfolio but is concerned that the stock market surge so far this year is set for a correction, making it possibly the wrong time to buy.

The Daily Mail

Investment Extra: Alex Brummer reports from a technology analysts' trip to San Francisco (organised by Neptune Investment Management) and was impressed by companies such as Autodesk (No IC rating) which designs 2D and 3D software for a range of industries. The Sunday Times

In the City: Danny Fortson says diamonds are back in fashion, making Gem Diamonds (Last IC rating: Good value, 22 Aug) look cheap and an attractive bid target.

Galliford Try's (Last IC rating: Buy, 7 Mar) focus on affluent south-east England is paying off, although it should not forget its construction division which needs some nurturing.

The Sunday Telegraph

■ Questor: Garry White says avoid Goldman Sachs (No IC rating), US$122.83, as there are better opportunities elsewhere in US financial stocks.

■ Buy Cineworld (Last IC rating: Buy, 9 Mar), 215p, which is making aggressive moves to win market share in a competitive market.

The Mail on Sunday

Midas: Joanne Hart reviews her 'Dogs of the Footsie' high-yielding shares portfolio, replacing Inmarsat (Last IC rating: Hold, 6 Mar), Icap (Last IC rating: Fairly priced, 16 Nov) and Standard Life (Last IC rating: Buy, 14 Mar) with AstraZeneca (Last IC rating: Buy, 3 Feb), National Grid (Last IC rating: Good value, 17 Nov) and Vodafone (Last IC rating: Buy, 15 Feb).
