With Britain facing a chronic housing shortage, what better way to help out than to splash the cash by building a new home from scratch. That's what Sir Peter Burt, a non-executive director on the board of Cambria Automobiles (CAMB) is doing. To fund the venture, Sir Peter has sold 850,000 shares in the posh car retailer at 51p apiece, generating £433,500.

However, he and his relatives still have a significant interest in Cambria. Personally, Sir Peter retains 1,046, 950 shares in the company, or just over 1 per cent of the total stock. And the Burt Concert Party, a group made up of Sir Peter's shares and those of his family members, owns 4,303,272 shares in total, representing 4.3 per cent of the issued share capital.
Business shows every sign of booming. Cambria's financial year ended in August, and the company is set to report in November, but thanks to a trading update earlier this month we know what to expect. Full-year results will be ahead of analysts' forecasts, with new car volumes up 16 per cent - well ahead of the wider market. The newly acquired Land Rover and Jaguar businesses in Barnet are being successfully integrated and are expected to make a "considerable" contribution to the 2014-15 financial year.
