On the same day that Kerry Group (KYGA) released its full-year results, a company director tucked into a substantial number of shares in the Irish ingredients giant.

Philip Toomey, who sits on the board, bought 2,000 shares, priced at €63.15 (£45.84), totalling €126,300. The move is certainly a sign of confidence in Kerry, particularly given that the full-year results, though good, weren't eye-popping. Still, a 4 per cent rise in adjusted trading profits to €636m and a 2.4 per cent uptick in volumes was a good outcome given the challenging macroeconomic backdrop in many of Kerry's key markets. And, as we said in the results write-up last week, demand for convenience foods and health and wellness products is growing around the world as consumers become richer, time-poor and more health-conscious. These are areas in which Kerry operates through its ingredients and flavours division.
