Chart of the day: Airbus outsells Boeing at Paris

In total, Airbus unveiled deals to sell 421 aircraft valued at $57bn. Boeing, meanwhile, sold 331 jets worth $50.2bn, the higher dollar to order ratio being attributed to a greater number of deals for more expensive wide-body jets.

The combined figure of $107.2bn was $8.3bn less than last year, but still more than expected and enough to quell concerns that demand is bottoming out. It also adds to the pressures faced by Aerospace’s two big players. Boeing has 5,700 jets in its order backlog and Airbus more than 6,300, pushing deliveries out as much as eight, or nine years.
