Gulf Marine Services (GMS) provided a fillip for investors earlier this week when it announced that its latest self-propelled, self-elevating support vessel (SESV) - the GMS Scirocco - had been completed ahead of schedule and under budget - something of a rarity in the offshore oil and gas service sector. GMS Scirocco is the second of a new SESV design - the mid-size class - to be added to the company's fleet. A third, the GMS Sharqi, will be delivered during the first quarter of next year.
GMS also revealed that the new vessel will start paying its way immediately through a four-month works programme for an engineering, procurement and construction contractor working for a Middle East and north Africa (MENA)-based national oil company (NOC).
