Wealth management specialist Brooks Macdonald (BRK) has done well on the back of growing demand from clients for discretionary management of their investments. This is where the company manages funds on behalf of their clients, making the day-to-day decisions on what best to do. For the company, this is especially good news because discretionary services attract higher rates of commission.

In the year to June, assets under management grew by 13 per cent to £7.4bn, but the company may have taken a hit from the recent fall in equity prices. Shares in the company itself peaked at 1,933p in mid-September, but have since fallen back to 1,740p, although still well ahead of our buy tip (1,536p, 14 May 2015). Two directors have elected to crystallise some of these gains; chief executive Chris Macdonald has sold 610,000 shares at 1,700p, leaving him with 225,000 shares. He has also agreed to a lock-in arrangement on his remaining shares which will stay in place for two years. Meanwhile, finance director Simon Jackson sold 49,000 shares at 1,700p, leaving him with 30,354 shares.
