With the election campaign hotting up, companies editor Ian Smith’s Taking Stock column this week takes a look at the differing views being espoused on business and what the ramifications may be post-election.

One of the main targets which opened up this week was the energy sector, where a potential price cap on consumer bills has been suggested by the Conservative party this week – our sector correspondent Tom Dines examines the potential effect on energy companies, where shares were hit earlier this week.

Meanwhile, the City of London is eyeing up the post-Brexit future with some trepidation and with some reason if the latest IPO figures are anything to go on. In this week’s News Spotlight Megan Boxall examines the latest new listings figures from around the globe, which suggest London’s slice of the pie in the opening quarter was less fulsome than in previous years.

For those who missed it, yesterday we published a special podcast on the pharma and biotech sector in which Megan Boxall looked at how political ructions over pricing can cloud judgement on the long term prospects of companies in the sector. Listen in for free here.
