Whitbread is rumoured to be discussing a merger of Premier Inn with rival Travelodge, owned by Dubai International Capital. According to market gossip, Whitbread would acquire Travelodge in cash and the Arab investment firm would take a stake in Whitbread in return. But the deal could raise competition issues as Premier Inn and Travelodge are already the UK's two largest budget hotel chains.

GoodValue

The UK budget hotel segment is still too fragmented compared to its European peers and this move would certainly serve Whitbread's ambitions well. Good value at 1,183p.
