Resolution, the closed life fund specialist taken private by Pearl Group, plans to return with a £1bn initial public offering. The idea is to raise capital as part of a plan that will deploy around £5bn to buy up distressed companies in life assurance, asset management and general insurance, of which, at the moment, there are plenty.

Resolution founder Clive Cowdrey is known for his business acumen, and he will form part of the management team. If his timing on this is right then Resolution could be the one to watch.
