The US election might represent a turning point in Polar Capital 's (POLR) fortunes, after chief executive Tim Woolley signalled inflows had picked up since last November's election. Following a sharp rally in the shares, non-executive director Brian Ashford-Russell decided to sell 200,000 of his shares in the long-only fund manager, worth almost £750,000. However, Mr Ashford-Russell still holds a decent 6.65 per cent stake in the group.

Polar Capital has endured tough trading during the past 18 months, particularly as a result of weak sentiment towards Japanese equities. During the six months to the end of September, assets under management for its Japanese strategy reduced by more than a third. However, when announcing these results in December, Mr Woolley said inflows had picked up "markedly" since the US election. This included funds across North American, income and biotechnology strategies.
