The topic of executive pay has worked its way up the headlines of the financial media in recent weeks, with three FTSE 100 and a FTSE 250 company facing shareholder rebellions over salary increases. However, that's not something Lloyds Banking (LLOY) chief executive António Horta-Osório has to worry about for now. The board has approved a 2 per cent base salary increase, in line with other executive directors, and an additional 4 per cent to be given monthly in shares.

This is the first base salary increase for a chief executive of the group since 2011. The shares will be held by Mr Horta-Osório until the government sells its stake in the bank. The government announced it would delay the sale of its public Lloyds' shares at the end of last year, in the hope that financial markets would settle and it could gain a better price for the shares.
