Shares in IG Group (IGG) have tumbled almost a third since the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) announced its review into restrictions placed on spread betting providers. That's allowed group chief executive Peter Hetherington to increase his holding in the company at a fraction of the price at which they traded last summer. Mr Hetherington bought £1.1m of shares in the group on the same day it announced interim results for the six months to November 2016.

Market volatility around the time of the US election provided a boost in net trading revenue during the first-half. Active client numbers grew by almost a third at the core UK business, while sales were up across all divisions. The group - which also allows clients to take positions via contracts for difference - is shifting increasingly towards longer-term investors, rather than short-term traders.
