Arm (ARM) chairman Stuart Chambers risked catching a falling knife when he shelled out over £99,400 to raise his stake in the technology titan by a third. Shares in the group - which designs the microchips that power many of the world's smartphones, tablets and other computing devices - slumped by more than a tenth in both June and July.

The share purchase may highlight Mr Chambers' faith in Lawton Fitt and Stephen Pusey, who became non-executive directors of the group a few days after the transaction. Ms Fitt sits on the boards of US telecoms equipment group Ciena and private equity giant Caryle, while Mr Pusey previously served as Vodafone's chief technology officer.
Mr Chambers may also hope to reassure investors after Arm's second-quarter processor licensing sales rose only 3 per cent - compared with compound annual growth of 29 per cent between 2010 and 2014. Although processor royalties rose 43 per cent and the group signed 84 processor licences, investors sold off Arm's shares following these results.
Broker Liberum expects EPS of 29.3p, up from 24.1p in 2014.
