Tate & Lyle (TATE) non-executive Lars Frederiksen clearly thinks the drop in sterling will provide a sweet boost to the business. The Denmark-based board member, who is a former chief executive of biotech group Chr. Hansen, splashed out nearly £105,000 last month on shares in the company he joined in April. The shares have performed well since the EU referendum, up nearly 15 per cent.
Part of the appeal is likely to be the fact that just 2 per cent of its revenues are generated in the UK. A July trading update revealed that most of its turnover came from the US and so, if the sterling/dollar rate was maintained, it expected reported earnings to "increase strongly" following a positive translation back into pounds.
The company has also seen profits from its Splenda sucralose product grow ahead of last year's, while its bulk ingredients division reported an expected uptick in operating profits ahead of the US summer beverage season.
