David Ritchie, chief executive of Bovis Homes (BVS), has increased his stake in the housebuilder by buying 25,000 shares at a price of 773.5p a share. The £193,375 deal boosted his interest in the company to 0.11 per cent - or just over 146,000 shares.

The announcement came about a week after Jonathan Hill, group finance director, informed the board of his decision to take up a position at Saga and several months after Bovis posted buoyant interim results. In August, the housebuilder reported that its operating margins were approaching 18 per cent after revenue from legal completions jumped by 72 per cent and the number of homes built jumped 54 per cent to 1,487.
