At the beginning of this month, Anita Frew, the chairman-designate of Croda International (CRDA), acquired a total of 10,000 shares through a series of deals worth upwards of £290,000. Ms Frew, who is set to succeed outgoing chairman Martin Flower when he retires from the board in September, bought the shares at an average share price 7 per cent in advance of the 200-day moving average, which suggests she has faith in the Yorkshire-based chemicals group.

And why not? Despite a strong pound and weakening demand across European markets, Croda still managed to outstrip consensus revenue estimates during a challenging 2014. Croda's Life Sciences segment gives particular cause for encouragement, as more and more health-conscious consumers get on the Omega 3 bandwagon. And the benefits of an investment programme targeted on innovation and increased penetration of emerging markets should continue to accrue throughout this year.
