The world's biggest market has also been among the best this year - and this fund has a strong record there

Asia might be the future, and Europe might be cheap - but the stock market that has actually delivered the goods so far in 2012 is the American one. US companies are lean, profitable and stuffed with cash, and the US economy is also faring better than most developed peers; it's expected to grow by between 2 and 3 per cent this year.
