Buying a high-street retail unit was a popular investment strategy during the 2000s and landlords who got out before the 2007-09 crash made very healthy returns. Small-scale commercial units often offer rental yields of around 10 per cent, which investors can enjoy tax-free within a Self-Invested Personal Pension (Sipp).
