There are many reasons for investing in small-cap stocks, the most obvious of which is that, over time, they have been proven to outperform larger companies by some margin. With smaller companies there is increased scope for above-average earnings growth, something which diminishes the more a company grows. As renowned small-cap investor Jim Slater once said: "Elephants don't gallop, and I like to gallop."
