Gardeners the length and breadth of the country are staying indoors as some of the coldest weather on record froze them out during March. This is not great news for one of the UK's largest suppliers of compost and horticulture products, William Sinclair (SNCL), which said the exceptionally cold weather resulted in a delay to the spring selling season and that the UK gardening industry reported very slow sales levels in March.
But William Sinclair says it is confident that with warmer weather forecast this will release pent-up demand allowing sales to even out over the season. Results should also be helped by the doubling in production of the new SuperFyba operations at the Ellesmere Port site, and Freeland Horticulture, which is providing specialist topsoil for the landscaping of the Olympic Park, is also expecting warmer weather to help kick-start delayed projects.
