IC TIP: Buy

Clearly, you can be wrong in your fair value assumptions. That is only human nature. But by adopting a disciplined approach to your fundamental analysis, ascertaining whether the chart set-up is favourable or not and factoring in the potential for newsflow to act as a share price catalyst, it is possible to skew the odds in favour of achieving a profitable outcome.

This subject is relevant right now because three companies I have recommended have hit my target prices and will be releasing trading updates in the coming weeks: Netcall (NET: 39.5p), a small-cap business offering software to make telephone call-handling more efficient; Jarvis Securities (JIM: 292p), a stockbroker and financial services outsource provider; and Treatt (TET: 619p), a manufacturer and supplier of flavour, fragrance and cosmetic ingredients.

We are guaranteed good news from all three companies, so the decision I have to make now is whether there is scope for further upside.
