Hydrodec ’s (HYR) board of directors have shored up confidence in the oil recycling group by snapping up nearly £500,000 worth of shares in aggregate, following recent share price weakness.
All six directors bought their shares at 11p, though news of the dealings has since sent Hydrodec’s share price back up to 12.7p. Majority shareholder and director Andrew Black, co-founder of Betfair (BET), acquired 1.9m shares to take his holding to 178m shares or 24 per cent of the company. Lord Colin Moynihan - Hydrodec’s chairman and a former energy minister - spent nearly £100,000, adding 909,090 shares to his account.
The purchases came hot on the heels of two positive announcements from Hydrodec. First, the company received a further interim payment of $3.5m (£2m) from its insurance company, adding to the initial $2m received as compensation for the explosion at the Canton re-refinery plant in Ohio. The plant should be back up and running in the fourth quarter. Second, Hydrodec has filed a patent for its lubricant oil re-refining technology - a major step in its plans to expand into the much larger lubricant oil market.
