Delivering the goods: Inside Connect Group’s changing distribution network

Connect Group (CNCT) has spent the last few years managing the decline of its core newspaper distribution operation by cutting costs and tapping into new areas more akin to the requirements of today’s consumers. Exciting prospects from these new ventures, together with shrewd capital management of the Smiths News business, has made the group’s downtrodden shares the source of much hot debate in the square mile.

We met up with chief executive Mark Cashmore to discuss Connect’s transformation and the main concerns that continue to weigh on the share price. Our journey also saw us head out west to Hayes and Harlington, home to one of irregular shaped packaging specialist Tuffnells' key depots. While hardly glamorous, Tuffnells' niche offering has been at the heart of the support service group's return to form.
