For many years, EMED Mining languished at the pre-development stage, hamstrung with litigation and permitting problems. In 2014, the company rebranded as Atalaya (ATYM), installed a new management team, and then cheaply and quickly renovated the historic Riotinto copper mine in Southern Spain.
In the latest in our series of natural resources podcasts, natural resources writer Alex Newman speaks with Atalaya’s chief executive Alberto Lavandeira about the difficulties of renovating a mine, what’s next for the surging copper market and why he is already keen to take on the next project. Podcast produced by Dominic Toms.
