Theresa May’s gamble on calling an election to strengthen her position ahead of Brexit negotiations has backfired after the Conservatives were unable to secure a majority amid a Labour revival. Market reaction has been surprisingly calm with the FTSE100 gaining on the back of a fall in the pound which will benefit dollar earners but the more UK-centric FTSE250 giving up a little ground.
