AlphaScreen: Rise of the recruiters

Algy Hall's latest GARP screen results see recruiters dominate
September 24, 2018

Five large caps pass all eight of Algy Hall's GARP screen tests this month, and two of them are recruitment companies, with another two passing all but one of the tests. Indeed, the results are dominated by so-called economically sensitive stocks.

  • Joining Hays (HAS) and PageGroup (PAGE) with full marks are West End property specialist Shaftesbury (SHB) building products group Grafton (GFTU) and packaging business Macfarlane (MACF). Meanwhile other recruiters SThree (STHR) and Robert Walters (RWA) are among a bevy of companies which only failed one of the eight tests.
  • Conversely, no companies passed all seven tests set for the Small Cap screen although 13 companies passed all but one of the screen's criteria.
  • On the Aim market eight companies passed all the tests, up from four last month with Springfield Properties (SPR) and Atalaya Mining (ATYM) among the newcomers.
