Benjamin Graham's seminal work, The Intelligent Investor, remains one of the best books investors can read. At a time when people are less certain about equities, his thoughts on portfolio allocation are extremely pertinent. He doesn't advocate being out of the stock market completely (and possibly missing upside) but advises diversification across asset classes to mitigate the risk of a crash.

Mr. Graham is also known as the father of value investing. I often focus on companies with solid quality characteristics, not just cheap shares, but it's also important not to pay too much. In this week's round-up I examine companies for signs their shares are good value for money and highlight where investors should exercise caution.
