Yesterday White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders said President Trump was targeting former US intelligence and law enforcement officials because they had, ‘’politicized and in some cases monetised their public service and security clearances, making baseless accusations of improper contact with Russia or being influenced by Russia’’, Reuters reports. The fairly long list of those targeted includes John Brennan, who headed up the CIA under Obama, James Comey, James Clapper. Michael Hayden, Susan Rice and Andrew McCabe. They accuse him of abusing his power and stifling dissent.
Twenty people have died and over 100 injured in a town east of Athens which has been hit by wildfires. The army was drafted in yesterday to help the 300 firefighters tackling the flames. Fires have broken out in other parts of the country caused by extreme heat. PM Alexis Tsipras said, ‘’we are dealing with something completely asymmetric’’ after cutting short a trip to Bosnia.
