We try to explain why an investor might be interested in buying something which is guaranteed to incur a loss if held to maturity. We then compare other sovereign bonds where the yields hit new record lows this week.

 

Finally, we consider the implications of the yield on 30-year US Treasury Bonds where it is back down to where it dropped to (for the first time ever) when Lehman collapsed.
