Victrex CEO buys despite uncertainty

Chief executive Jakob Sigurdsson's company is down almost 30 per cent on a year ago, and he is a keen buyer
May 23, 2019

While specialist plastics maker Victrex (VCT) gets closer to an investment decision on new polymer manufacturing capacity, chief executive Jakob Sigurdsson has made his own spending call.

IC TIP: Hold at 2,046p

The company is watching developments (or lack of developments) from Westminster closely, as its supply chain will be heavily impacted if the UK falls out of the customs union in a hard Brexit.

To help mitigate the risk here, Victrex opened a warehouse in Germany in February and also has more space in China. Despite the Brexit uncertainty and falls in automotive and consumer electronics revenue in the first six months of its financial year, Victrex is thinking about expansion, with a new plant possible alongside "debottlenecking" work over the next two years.

Mr Sigurdsson, who is also on the Victrex board, bought 3,000 shares in the company this month at 2,092p each, for an investment of £62,753. This is the third major purchase by Mr Sigurdsson in the past six months, although this transaction is at a 13 per cent and 17 per cent discount to the February (3,000 shares) and December (1,950 shares) buys because of Victrex’s recent share price falls.
