Wincanton (WIN) chief executive Adrian Colman retires later this year, after a term of service that began in 2013 as finance director, before rising to his current position in 2015.
Leaving the logistics group in a reasonably strong place, Mr Colman elected to sell 579,237 shares on 29 May 2019, at a price of £2.68 each, banking £1,552,355. The chief executive and his connected beneficents retain an interest of 602,393 ordinary shares of 10p. A Wincanton spokesperson attributed the decision to sell down to “personal finance management”.
The group's statutory operating profits surged 23 per cent in its recent March year-end results. A slow start to the year owing to lost contracts was largely offset by recent contract wins with the likes of The Co-op, HMRC and Weetabix.
Mr Colman will be replaced by James Wroath, who is currently chief operating officer of North America at Lufthansa’s airline catering subsidiary LSG Sky Chefs, no later than October.
On the topic of retirement, last year group payments of £32.3m to Wincanton's pension scheme helped to reduce its deficit to £7.1m.
Broker Numis expects pre-tax profits of £51.1m and EPS of 34p for the year to March 2020, rising to £52.8m and 34.5p in FY2021.
