Henderson Smallers' Hermon expects rise in UK takeovers

Cheap valuations, a rise in takeovers, a talented workforce and a bounce in consumer confidence are some of the reasons why long-term investors should consider UK smaller companies, according to Neil Hermon, manager of Henderson Smaller Companies Investment Trust (HSL). Despite recent market falls as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, he argues that the outlook for the UK has improved since the general election in December when the Labour party, led by Jeremy Corbyn, failed to take power. “Brexit wasn’t the big issue – it was more the threat of Jeremy Corbyn being in charge,” he says.
