Big Yellow (BYG) executive chairman Nicholas Vetch has been busy changing the portfolio of shares held by Byways Investments, a company beneficially owned by his children. Just under 200,000 Big Yellow shares were sold on 21 June, followed by a further 800,435 shares on 29 June.
The sales were sold for portfolio diversification purposes, which have concluded for the foreseeable future. In the wake of these sales, Mr Vetch and his family’s beneficial holding amounts to just under 8m shares, or 5 per cent of the company’s issued share capital.
With its 96 self-storage outlets and a further 10 sites under development, the company’s built-out portfolio has the capacity to provide around 6.2m sq ft of flexible stage space at a time when there is growing demand for self-storage space. As occupancy rises to an expected peak of around 85 per cent this summer, a greater contribution to the bottom line is expected to come through growth in rents. Further growth will come from opening new sites, although the company admits that competition from other land users and an increasingly long and complex planning procedure will bring challenges to acquiring new sites.
