A line is drawn under Unilever's year of drama over the location of its headquarters

Mr Polman leaves his tenure of over a decade on the back of a dramatic year dominated by an aborted relocation of Unilever’s headquarters. After a commitment made in March to move to Rotterdam, a shareholder revolt in October forced the company into a u-turn. Unilever did not attribute Brexit to its initial decision to move to the Netherlands. A spokesperson for Unilever said: "Our internal succession planning processes started about a year ago."
