Standard Life Aberdeen (SLA) has been haemorrhaging assets since last year’s merger, suffering £16.6bn in net outflows during the first half of the year alone. It's therefore unsurprising to see the shares lose almost half their value over the past 12 months. Co-chief executives Keith Skeoch and Martin Gilbert have taken advantage of that depressed price to buy just over £400,000-worth of shares each in the now almost fully-fledged asset manager.

The Aberdeen Standard investment arm has incurred net outflows across asset classes, including a net loss of £5.3bn in business from the flagship Global Absolute Returns Strategy (GARS) during the first half. That far outweighed gains made by the Wrap and Elevate UK retail savings platforms, which enjoyed £2.5bn in net inflows.
