Big Yellow’s (BYG) executive chairman Nicholas Vetch sold 166,236 of company shares held in Byways Investments, a company beneficially owned by his children. On the same day, Mr Vetch and his wife disposed of 324,593 shares, although they still hold 4.52 per cent of the company’s issued share capital.

Trading remains brisk for the self-storage provider, with closing occupancy in the three months to December 2018 up at 82.1 per cent, while average rents were ahead by 3 per cent. Construction is well advanced on two new stores in Manchester and Camberwell, with the former expected to open in the summer and the latter in the spring of 2020. Consent has also been granted for a new store in Bracknell and a comprehensive redevelopment of its Battersea store.
Trading is traditionally stronger in the spring and summer and the company remains focused on its core objective of achieving 90 per cent occupancy.
