Shares in Evraz (EVR) hit an all-time high this month after the Russian steel giant posted another strong set of full-year results. With a 40¢ (30p) fourth-quarter dividend guaranteed, the group’s billionaire owner-directors picked their moment to bank some profits.

Chairman Alexander Abramov, chief executive Alexander Frolov and non-executive director Eugene Shvidler, alongside major shareholder Roman Abramovich, collectively sold 1.8 per cent of the company on the open market, at £5.95 a share. Acting in concert, the directors and Mr Abramovich each cashed in 2.8 per cent of their own holdings via an accelerated bookbuild run by Citigroup, Credit Suisse and UBS.
To the non-oligarch investor, the sale of £82.7m of director stock – or £151m including Mr Abramovich’s disposal – might seem like a big deal, but it barely moves the needle. Collectively, the directors still own £2.9bn-worth of shares, which together with the £2.62bn in the hands of Mr Abramovich still amounts to 63 per cent of the group.
