FFI Holdings (FFI) has been around for a long time, starting out in the 1950s, but it was only two weeks ago that the company floated on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM). FFI is based in Los Angeles, with 11 other offices dotted around the globe.

The business model centres on underwriting films, so that when approached by a producer who wants to raise finance, they execute a type of due diligence on the film, assessing its potential and, where appropriate, give it a rubber stamp. With this kind of insurance, the producer can then present to a potential lender.
At the time of the IPO, there was a primary and secondary issue. Funds raised totalled £59m, but that included £27.6m from shares sold down by two of the founding shareholders. And in order to achieve a 25 per cent free float, and as part of the float, chief executive and founder shareholder Steven Ransohoff sold 7.4m shares at 150p each into the market.
