It’s been ‘all go’ at The Gym Group since we covered the half-year figures in August. The no-frills fitness chain subsequently struck a deal to acquire 18 gyms from Lifestyle Fitness for a total cash consideration of £20.5m. The purchase price looks in line with standard industry multiples given the sites generated cash profits of £3.45m in 2016, on revenue of £11.1m, and represent a net book value of £19.2m.

Plans are moving ahead to convert 10 of the sites to The Gym brand immediately following assignment of the leases, most probably by the end of the first quarter of 2018. The remaining sites will continue to operate under the Lifestyle Fitness brand until further notice.
