Spire's shares suffer after a difficult year

Full-year figures show that Spire Healthcare (SPI) is operating in a rapidly growing market. The UK’s population is ageing, expanding, and seeking medical treatment more frequently as diseases of affluence take hold. As the NHS emerges from its busiest winter ever, Spire has seen an increase in the number of patients opting to pay for their own private hospital care, and its self-pay division (a fifth of the total group) reported a 12 per cent increase in revenues as a result.
