UK continues to hold SIG back

Building products distributor SIG (SHI) is making progress as it works to turn its business around, but the group continued to make statutory losses in 2017. The group has been struggling in the face of an inhospitable trading environment in the UK. And investor confidence has been dented as a result of macro uncertainty, not helped by specific industry events such as the collapse of former support services giant Carillion or revelations of accounting irregularities at SIG Distribution, the UK insulation and interiors business, which resulted in an overstatement of profits for the previous two accounting years.
