Another hectic week for results from UK companies was also pockmarked with some notable news events as the London equity market spent most of the week in retreat. Facebook’s woes dominated the first half of the week and sent shockwaves through the tech sector, as Megan Boxall reported. Meanwhile, companies editor Mark Robinson looked at the threat of regulation for the tech giants for his Taking Stock column.

Talking of the tech sector, this week’s IC Questions podcast asked a leading investment trust manager if the tech sector could become a fertile hunting ground for income investors.

Meanwhile, insurance giant Aviva has attracted the ire of investors with a plan to cancel some of its preference shares as Emma Powell reports. Elsewhere investors were let down by disappointing news from the likes of De La Rue, Micro Focus and Kingfisher but cheered by good showings at Secure Trust Bank and Ferrexpo and more asset sales at Rio Tinto.
