The oil and gas market is at an odd juncture. Despite a strengthened dollar, crude prices are up more than 40 per cent this year. Global demand appears robust, and the jury is still out on whether US output can take the market share left by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) and the non-cartel states, whose collective cuts have steadily bolstered prices.
